Placement Seeks You, Kind Of.
There's and interesting trend I'm seeing lately in the music placement field. Perhaps it has always been there, or it's a new way of thinking that has been evolving with the new music business.
It's one where music supervisors want the sound of a hit band or artist, but the sound of something else completely!
This is great for producers everywhere, but it is death for an artist attempting to craft their own sound. If pursued by someone trying to hone their own thing, it most definitely should be taken on like a second job that can easily be walked away from.
I assure you, the original artists the music supervisor is looking for the sound of didn't set out to sound like a previous artist.
Speaking of placements, I'd like to thank Canada's "Morning Live" for using me as bumper music on May 2nd!

Two Sides of the Same Coin
I try to keep this site free and clear of politics, religion, etc., however, while browsing the global financial news of the day I ran across a page on Reuters that struck me odd.
It was the Reuters Photojournalism page. It contained all the most popular current stories through photography. What struck me so odd was to realize how small our planet has become, yet how large it remains.
What I mean by this is, it's so small that one page can tell me all about the goings-on around the globe, yet it's still so vast that hunger in Yemen sits next to Emma Watson receiving an award at the MTV movie awards.
The stark dichotomy of the two stories placed next to each other hit me with the weight of the Universe that not too many people give a flying F$#@ as to what's going on beyond their line of sight, or maybe feel they can't do much of anything about it.
Is the starving child in Yemen ecstatic that Miss Watson receives the accolades of her fans and peers?
Does Emma know or care that this child exists and will most likely not see their next birthday?
Has apathy choked the life out of empathy within all of us? Can we blame ourselves? Should we blame the media, again?
I don't suppose to know the answers, but I do know that just as I try to offer some type of solution in songs I write that involve problems, I will try to do the same here.
Don't let the the apathy take hold.
Care about something worth caring about that will make a positive difference.
Give a shit.

1st Co-Write!
So I just submitted my first co-written song for release.
The fabulous Miss Kirsty-Anne and I tried our had at writing together and have produced quite the gem. It will be available in approximately 48 hours from now on iTunes and around the Interwebs.
Please be on the lookout for Alex & Kirsty-Anne "(I'm Not) Lonely".
I'm working on some sort of video to accompany it's release, hence, more info to come about that.

CA Good Times!
Just got back from my second trip to L.A. this month.

Harmonic Suppression/Death
After two weeks of mixing and in the final stage of mastering and this one little check-box screws everything up.
Now of course this could be said about any little check-box or peripheral setting one knows little about, but this one was one I knew nothing about, at the peril of aural failure.
This little check box, when initialized, takes a week's worth of EQ'ing, making everything sound purrrdy, and in one abrupt click, stuffs it all into a pillowcase.
Don't click the box, people!
Stay away for the good of Humanity!
Think of the children!

SINGLES!!!
I'm going to make this quick...
I'm trashing the idea of a full-length album and releasing each song as a single.
These will be ALBUM VERSIONS. So if you have the EP "up and up", these will be different.
I'll be releasing songs all through January and February.
First up will be, Separate Directions.
I've gone and given it new vocals, new instrumentation and glued it all together with epoxy resin!
No kids glue here.
Expect it up on iTunes A.S.A.P.
I'll be turning it in for release shortly.
