Recently much has fallen nicely into place. Mostly concerning my recording and this studio. But not excluding (yes, it's double negative day) the writing and the performance hurdles.
"Performance Hurdles," you say? Yes! Indeed I do! Performing is a separate beast from all I've been doing for the past few years, and I'm finding it quite a daunting idea to get back into. I find it's a particular frame of mind, one that I've been on vacation from for a while now. But fear not brave world, I shall rise again to entertain the masses (such as the Phoenix that I am).
Also, I've taken to sliding back into character through the local karaoke scene. Tonight's pièce de résistance was a rousing rendition of an old stand-by I do: "Mr. Jones" by the Counting Crows. Much to my surprise I think I may have actually received the loudest applause of the evening for my Adam Duritz vocal impression. It seemed as though the stars aligned and I was able to engage everyone on some level, holding the attention from the middle of the first verse, which as anyone who has partaken in a live performance has found, it's a nearly impossible task to achieve with any drunken horde. It felt good. I won't lie, I savored it a bit at the end.
Onward and upward though! Haha! I feel there's quite a climb ahead of me, just getting back to the point where the summit is at least in view. But slow and steady wins this race, and the one with the most toys still dies, and you're better safe than hold up in a Seven-Eleven wondering if the cops will just go away, and it's better to have loved and lost than to have had to pay through the nose for it on weekend trips to Vegas.
Anyway, enjoy a brief look around the room.
-me.
